T8 LED Replacement Guide

A practical guide to Type A, Type B, and dual-mode T8 LED replacement considerations.

Published by: Bright Concepts LightingUpdated: August 24, 2026

T8 LED replacement types

T8 LED tubes are commonly sold in several electrical configurations. Type A lamps are designed to operate with a compatible existing ballast. Type B lamps bypass the fluorescent ballast and are wired to line voltage according to the lamp manufacturer instructions. Dual-mode or Type A+B lamps are designed to support more than one approved installation method.

Compatibility matters: do not assume a tube will work with an existing ballast merely because the physical size matches. Always verify the lamp and ballast documentation before installation.

What to verify before ordering

  • Tube length and T8 form factor
  • Electrical configuration: ballast-compatible, ballast-bypass, or dual-mode
  • Input voltage
  • Color temperature (CCT)
  • Lumen output
  • Dimming requirements
  • Ballast compatibility when applicable

Search Bright Concepts Lighting by the existing lamp SKU, ballast SKU, UPC, or specifications printed on the lamp. When possible, compare the manufacturer spec sheet before ordering.
